If it was genuinely unavoidable, tell them. A message explaining what happened is worth far more than silence, and a professional who understands why is usually willing to waive a fee once.
What does real damage is repeated no-shows without contact. A studio can decline future bookings from a client, and most of the ones who do are reacting to a pattern rather than a single bad day.
